The authentic BKF chair is a design icon, as it has been in the permanent collection of the MOMA in New York since 1944 and since 2014 in the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona.
Formed of a structure built in solid round iron of 12.7mm in diameter manufactured with precision semi-automatic hydraulic benders in bending. All joints are made with automatic machines and the finish is polished by hand. The paint is of the epoxy type of high temperature firing. The laminar treatment plastically envelops the framework.
The weight falls on a light steel frame and the body of the chair is based on a piece of leather. Ferrari Hardoy took many of his ideas from his stay in Le Corbusier's office in Paris and made this chair, one of the most copied over the years, at the peak of his career. When sitting, the weight of a person's body can adopt various unstructured positions and experience the sensation of being in a hammock. Its structural morphology provides a constant dynamism, which is opposed to the action of rest. The BKF chair prompts the person to drop into their seat, lie down, until they reach a fetal position.
