TMC lamp with chrome structure, designed by Miguel Milá, for Santa & Cole
This is perhaps the most celebrated work of one of the main pioneering masters of industrial design in Spain. This lamp was part of the first collection of TRAMO (“Annoying Work”), the company that Miguel Milá founded to self-produce his work in post-war times in Spain, when he began rudimentary with a profession that he would later develop with mastery, that of pre-industrial designer, looking for suitable solutions with the available technology. Works Annoying, Mila's names are like her objects: their depth lies in their simplicity. And this representative of the TM family, Tra-mo Mó-vil, this time with a chrome metallic structure, is presented as the informal alternative, or blue jeans, of it.
In a demonstration of formal serenity and functional efficiency, Miguel Milá managed to separate the three essential elements of any lamp: its structure, its electrical components and its lampshade, so that the user assembles them with extreme ease and enables better maintenance during its very long life useful life. And time beautifies it. The light source rotates circularly on the axis and can be raised or lowered like a flag on a pole.
Celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of its extraordinary design, Santa & Cole presented in 2011 “the last and definitive edition”, according to its author, of the TMC lamp. Now it recovers some details of its varied productive life, such as the thickness and quality of the methacrylate material of its screen or its strictly circular shape, but it also incorporates new solutions to the raise-and-lower system of the same, now being smooth and continuous the upper shaft, simply adjusting its height by the force of a magnet. A masterpiece, definitely unbeatable.
